GOLFERS ELBOW

Golfers elbow or medial epicondylitis is painful condition of the inner aspect of elbow due to overuse.

It’s an inflammatory condition of the flexor tendons of the forearm at the inner aspect ofelbow leading to pain.

CAUSES

• Repeated over usage
• Idiopathic

SYMPTOMS

• Pain – worse with movements
• Swelling
• Decreased grip strength

INVESTIGATIONS

• X rays – to rule out bony abnormality at elbow
• MRI – to rule out soft tissue injury
• EMG – to rule out nerve compression

TREATMENT

NON-SURGICAL

Undisplaced fractures can be treated conservatively

• Rest
• Analgesics
• Splint/brace
• Physiotherapy
• Cortisone injections
• PRP injections
• Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT)

SURGICAL

It involves removing the damaged muscle and reattaching the healthy muscle at the elbow.
