HEEL PAIN

Heel pain is the commonest foot problem that occurs under the heel (plantar Fascitis) or behind it (Achilles tendinitis).

CAUSE

• Strain by walking or running with bare feet or with non-supportive footwear
• Heel bursitis
• Heel bumps
• Tendinitis
• High arch foot
• Obesity

SYMPTOMS

• Pain under or behind the feet
• Pain getting worse early morning and after prolonged rest
• Swelling

INVESTIGATIONS

• X-rays to rule out bony spurs
• MRI to rule out tendinitis

TREATMENT

NON-SURGICAL

• Rest
• Medications – Analgesics, tendon supplements
• Physiotherapy
• Avoiding walking on bare-feet
• Using supportive shoes
• Cortisone injections
• PRP injections
• Extra corporeal shock wave therapy

SURGICAL

• Excision of Calcaneal spurs
• Plantar fascia release
• Bumpectomy
